Classification of lifting machinery

Hoisting machinery is categorized into several types based on their structure, including light and small lifting equipment, elevators, cranes, and overhead monorail systems. Light and small lifting equipment typically consists of items like pulleys, spreaders, jacks, manual hoists, electric hoists, and conventional winches. These devices are generally compact, lightweight, and easy to operate. Most of them are manually operated, making them ideal for lighter tasks where heavy lifting is not required. They can be used independently or as part of a larger crane system. Some models, however, have high lifting capacities, such as the hydraulic truck crane jack, which can lift up to 750 tons.

Vertical lifting devices, such as elevators, lifting platforms, mine hoists, and bucket elevators, are designed for vertical or near-vertical movement along fixed paths. Cranes, on the other hand, are more complex machines that can lift and move heavy loads horizontally within a specific area. Overhead monorail systems use rigidly suspended tracks to transport materials throughout a facility or even outside of it, offering efficient material handling in industrial environments.

Every hoisting machine has a basic lifting mechanism that enables the fundamental action of lifting. Depending on the type, some systems also include additional mechanisms such as an operating mechanism, a luffing mechanism, a slewing mechanism, or other specialized functions. The lifting process can involve flexible components like steel cables or chains, or rigid elements such as screws or rods. This variety of designs ensures that hoisting machinery can meet a wide range of industrial and commercial needs.
