Compared to the previous two interviewees, Zhuang Moumou has a unique media identity. As an industry journalist known for his sharp insights, he starts each day with a flood of urgent emails. "In the morning, there are often more than five tasks to handle—new decisions from headquarters, emerging industry trends, and updates from companies. These all get squeezed into a short time window," he says. While processing these emails, Zhuang carefully checks the service website, ensuring every page is functioning properly and the titles are accurate, to prevent minor issues caused by haste or oversight.
"As long as I have time, I check Baidu, Google, and other sites for the latest news. The internet is the fastest medium, and it's where you can find the most up-to-date and timely information. As a reporter, if I can't travel often, I must stay updated through various channels to identify news angles and produce in-depth reports."
The post-80s media professional shows more interest in the industry than his peers. After finishing his morning routine, Zhuang routinely visits major news websites during lunch break, scanning the latest social news and engaging with his "fans" on Weibo to share his thoughts. However, the recent workload—planning a forum, writing in-depth reports, and preparing the exhibition report at the end of September—has left him feeling overwhelmed. "If I only focus on my reporting duties, I'll always be busy but not stressed. But when I think about myself as a media professional, no day is ever easy."
Zhuang embodies the core traits of a new generation of media professionals: concerned about politics but not overly vocal, quick to adapt to new technologies without getting carried away, and disciplined in work but not rigid. He keeps up with the latest digital tools, exchanges news with industry leaders on Weibo after work, and maintains an objective tone, rarely letting personal emotions influence his work. "After work, I don’t deliberately think about the industry, but I do pay attention to what I chat about online. For instance, Shenzhen’s furniture industry leads the country in design and technology, but most companies aren’t very large. Few business owners are willing to invest in long-term branding; many prefer short-term gains. This might relate to Shenzhen’s straightforward social relationships, clean environment, and convenient lifestyle. It’s a positive aspect, which is why I love this city."
