By analyzing photos of passersby and collecting witness statements, the police eventually identified a 28-year-old teacher from Guangxi as a suspect. In coordination with local authorities, they confirmed that the teacher and six others had traveled from Guangxi to Chongqing earlier this year.
During the investigation, the police also uncovered another case in late March, where a large supermarket in Jiangjin District was robbed. Over 400,000 yuan in operating funds were stolen, and again, a provocative note was left behind. On April 29, the police launched a search in Guangxi, where they found that the suspects had split into two groups—one heading to Zhejiang, and the other remaining in the area. On May 2, five suspects were arrested in various cities across Guangxi. One of them, a teacher, had already realized he was in danger and turned himself in before reaching Chongqing. It was later revealed that one of the gang members, Chen, had previously been arrested for safe-breaking and had not reformed after his release. He had designed a plan involving wearing gloves and stockings, entering homes to disable cameras, and using these techniques to commit crimes—yet he never expected to be caught in Chongqing.
Currently, five suspects—including Shi You, Chen Mou, Wang Mou, Yu Mou, and Liu Mou—have been detained. Two others are still being pursued by the police through online warrants. This case highlights the growing sophistication of modern thieves, who not only plan their crimes carefully but also leave taunting messages, showing a disturbing level of confidence and arrogance. Authorities are urging businesses to remain vigilant and improve security measures to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
