The typhoon "Sura" No. 9 this year has been discontinued on the evening of the 3rd, but its impact has not yet ended. It is expected that today (5th), due to the influence of the “Sura” residual cloud system, there will still be strong rainfall in western and southern Hunan, central and western Guangxi, and there will be heavy rains and even heavy rains in the local area. Floods, landslides, mudslides and floods in small and medium-sized rivers are good for urban and farmland drainage.

Yesterday, due to the influence of the “Sura” residual cloud system, significant precipitation occurred in Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi, Fujian, and Guangdong. The monitoring showed that from 20:00 to 6:00 pm, the northwestern part of Hubei, the northern coast of Fujian, the southern part of Hunan and the northern part of Guangdong had a rainfall of 50-80 mm, and Fujian Fuzhou and other localities were more than 100 mm.

It is understood that "Sura" landed in Fujian on the 3rd and brought a large range of heavy precipitation, resulting in excessive warning water floods in many rivers in the province, and disasters such as flooding and damage to houses in Sanming, Ningde and Longyan. The short-term concentrated rainfall also led to flash floods in parts of Jiangxi, the water level of small and medium-sized rivers soared, local collapse and landslides along the rivers, and some farmland and some rural roads were flooded.

The Central Meteorological Observatory predicts that today, due to the influence of the “Sura” residual cloud system, there is still strong rainfall in the western part of the Yangtze River, the western part of South China, and the eastern part of the southwestern region. There are moderate to heavy rains in parts of western and southern Hunan, southern Sichuan Basin, Guizhou, eastern Yunnan, and western South China. Among them, there are heavy rains in parts of northwestern Hubei, western Hunan, southeastern Guizhou, and central and western Guangxi. There is heavy rain (100-160 mm) in the southern part of Guangxi; the above-mentioned local areas will have strong convective weather such as short-term thunderstorms and strong winds, and it is necessary to strengthen prevention.

Experts reminded that due to the strong precipitation caused by “Sura”, the meteorological risk of small and medium-sized rivers in the basins of Xiangjiang and Lancang Rivers is relatively high. All localities need to strengthen prevention, and at the same time pay attention to the drainage work of cities and farmland. In addition, mountainous areas such as Guangxi and Hunan need to be alert to geological disasters such as flash floods, mudslides and landslides that may be caused by heavy rainfall.
