Gas protection

The definition of gas protection is the main protection component of the internal fault of the transformer. It can sensitively operate the faults such as transformer turn-to-turn and inter-layer short circuit, core failure, internal casing failure, internal winding disconnection and insulation degradation and oil level drop. When the internal fault of the oil-immersed transformer occurs, the arc will cause the insulation material to decompose and generate a large amount of gas, which flows from the fuel tank to the oil sump. The intensity varies depending on the severity of the fault, and the air flow and the oil flow are reacted. The protection of the action is called gas protection, also called gas protection.
In the gas protection relay, the upper part is a sealed float and the lower part is a metal baffle, both of which are fitted with sealed mercury contacts. The pontoons and baffles can be rotated about their respective axes. In normal operation, the relay is filled with oil, the float is immersed in the oil, in the floating position, the mercury joint is broken; the baffle hangs due to its own weight, and the mercury joint is also broken. When a slight fault occurs inside the transformer, the gas is generated at a slower speed. When the gas rises to the oil conservator, it first accumulates in the upper space of the gas relay, causing the oil surface to fall, and the float is lowered to close the mercury joint. Signal, this is the so-called "light gas"; when a serious fault occurs inside the transformer, it generates a strong gas gas, the pressure in the fuel tank suddenly increases suddenly, causing a large oil flow to the oil pillow direction, because the oil flow impacts the baffle The baffle overcomes the resistance of the spring, drives the magnet to move toward the reed contact, closes the mercury contact, turns on the trip circuit, and trips the circuit breaker. This is called “heavy gasâ€. Heavy gas action, immediately cut off all power supplies connected to the transformer, thus avoiding accidents and expanding the role of the transformer.

Scope of protection Gas protection is the primary protection of the transformer and it reflects all faults in the tank. Including: multi-phase short circuit in the fuel tank, short circuit between winding turns, short circuit between winding and iron core or with outer casing, core failure, oil level drop or oil leakage, poor contact of tap changer or poor wire welding. Gas protection is fast, sensitive, and simple. However, it does not reflect the failure of the external circuit of the tank (such as the lead-out line), so it cannot be used as the only protection device to protect the internal fault of the transformer. In addition, gas protection is also prone to malfunctions due to interference from external factors such as earthquakes.
The gas relay of the transformer on-load tap changer has the same function as the main change gas relay, and the installation position is different, and the models are different.
