In recent months, the popularity of silk bedding has surged due to its softness and lighter feel compared to traditional cotton options. However, with a wide variety of products available in shopping malls, many consumers are confused by the different labels and high prices associated with so-called "multi-functional" or "high-tech" quilts. Experts advise buyers to pay close attention to the actual silk content when purchasing.
During a visit to several stores, it was observed that the price differences between brands of silk quilts can be quite significant. For instance, at a mall on Huayan Road, a single-sized quilt was priced at 388 yuan. The salesperson claimed it was a "real silk quilt" and that it sold five to six units daily. However, upon checking the certificate, it was found that only 30% of the filling was silk, with the rest being polyester fiber. In some large malls, the price of silk quilts can exceed 4,000 yuan.
Beyond the high costs, various marketing terms like "Jinsang Silk Quilt," "Goose Silk Quilt," and "Silk Emollient Quilt" have created further confusion among consumers. Some sellers even use fancy names like "Deluxe Edition" to justify higher prices. One store sold a "silk emollient quilt" twice as expensive as a regular one, claiming it used the best quality silk for better skin contact. However, after checking the labels, it was revealed that some of these quilts contained only 10-30% silk, with the rest made of cotton or polyester.
According to China's current "Silk National Standard," a product must contain 100% silk to be labeled as a "pure silk quilt." If the silk content is 50% or more, it is considered a "mixed silk quilt." Anything below 50% cannot be called a silk quilt at all. The standard also categorizes products into three grades—excellent, first-class, and qualified—based on both the silk content and the quality of the filling.
Experts warn that the price differences driven by these "concepts" are often just marketing hype. Consumers should not be misled by fancy names and instead focus on the actual composition of the product. Additionally, they should not assume that a higher price always means better quality. It's important to choose a quilt that suits individual needs and preferences rather than just following trends.
