Hotel cleaning and disinfection methods and precautions

Keeping a hotel clean is essential because it directly impacts the overall image of the establishment and the comfort of its guests. A well-maintained environment not only enhances customer satisfaction but also strengthens the hotel’s brand reputation. To ensure this, hotels must employ dedicated cleaning staff and follow comprehensive cleaning and disinfection procedures, along with important safety measures.

1. Cleaning Procedures

(1) Begin by removing most of the dirt and residue from the surface of public items such as towels, bed linens, and other shared equipment.

(2) Wash the surfaces using a properly diluted cleaning solution to ensure effective removal of grime and bacteria.

(3) Rinse the surfaces thoroughly with clean water to eliminate any remaining detergent and prevent chemical residue.

2. Disinfection Methods

Disinfection can be done through physical methods like steam, boiling, or infrared heating. These techniques are highly effective in killing germs and pathogens.

(1) Boiling or steam disinfection should be maintained at 100°C for more than 10 minutes. This method is ideal for items like cups, pots, towels, and bedding.

(2) Infrared disinfection typically requires temperatures around 120°C for over 10 minutes. It is suitable for similar items such as dining utensils, kitchenware, and textiles.

3. Post-Disinfection Care

(1) After disinfection, public items should be air-dried or dried using a clean, dedicated towel. Avoid using regular hand towels to prevent recontamination.

(2) Once disinfected, all drinking utensils should be placed in a designated sterilization cabinet to maintain hygiene standards.

4. Important Precautions During Disinfection

(1) Always use disinfectants within their expiration date and store them under recommended conditions.

(2) Prepare the disinfectant according to the manufacturer's instructions, ensuring that solid forms are fully dissolved before use.

(3) Replace the disinfectant every four hours or sooner if needed to maintain effectiveness.

(4) Regularly check the concentration of the disinfectant during use. If it drops below the required level, replace it immediately.

(5) Ensure that all items are immersed in the disinfectant for the recommended time—usually at least five minutes for general supplies.

(6) Make sure that all items are completely submerged in the disinfectant solution for optimal results.

(7) After disinfection, rinse the items with clean water to remove any leftover chemicals and prevent irritation or damage.
