Will Asian LLDPE trends continue to rise in 2013?

Will Asian LLDPE trends continue to rise in 2013? In 2012, the price of LLDPE film in Asia experienced a steady upward trend throughout the year. Although it started off with less momentum compared to LDPE at the beginning of the year, by the end of 2012, LLDPE had reached a premium position in the market. Industry experts are now forecasting that this upward movement will likely continue into 2013. Looking back at the early months of 2011, LDPE film prices were significantly higher than LLDPE film at CFR China levels, with a price difference of around $175 per ton due to tariff considerations. However, by February 2012, this gap had narrowed dramatically, dropping below $100 per ton. By July 2012, the prices of both LDPE and LLDPE were nearly on par. Since then, LLDPE has consistently held its own or even outperformed LDPE in terms of pricing. As of early December, the premium for LLDPE had climbed to almost $40 per ton. This shift reflects growing demand for LLDPE, driven by its versatility in packaging and industrial applications. Analysts believe that supply constraints and strong demand from downstream sectors could keep the upward trend alive in the coming year. With continued economic growth in Asia and stable raw material costs, the outlook for LLDPE remains positive for 2013.
