Basic understanding of various sections of rust-proof aluminum
China Aluminum Industry Net. 1. LF6 is a high-strength aluminum alloy with excellent corrosion resistance and good plasticity under annealing and extrusion conditions. It exhibits acceptable gas tightness and weldability when using argon arc welding, making it suitable for applications such as welded containers, load-bearing components, and aircraft skin and frame parts. Its machinability is also favorable, allowing for easy processing in various industrial settings. 2. LF21 is a widely used rust-proof aluminum alloy, known for its good corrosion resistance and weldability. However, it has relatively low strength and cannot be strengthened through heat treatment. In the annealed state, it offers high plasticity, making it ideal for manufacturing parts that require good formability and are exposed to liquid or gaseous environments, such as oil tanks, pipes, and liquid containers. It can also be used to produce rivets from wire rods, offering versatility in application. 3. LF5-1 is a non-heat-treatable aluminum alloy that provides moderate strength, excellent corrosion resistance, and good machinability. It is often anodized to enhance its surface appearance, making it suitable for optical mechanical components, ship parts, and wire clips. Its combination of durability and aesthetics makes it a popular choice in specialized manufacturing sectors. 4. LF13 is highly resistant to corrosion and features good welding performance. Although its thermal and electrical conductivity are lower than that of pure aluminum, it can be strengthened through cold deformation. However, it cannot be enhanced by heat treatment. This makes it ideal for use in structural welding applications where strength and corrosion resistance are key factors. 5. LF2 and LF3 offer higher strength compared to LF21, along with good plasticity and corrosion resistance. They are not heat-treatable but possess excellent weldability—especially LF3, which performs slightly better in this regard. These alloys are well-suited for cold-stamped parts, containers, and medium-strength welded structures that operate in liquid environments. Their ability to be polished and machined after cold hardening adds to their appeal in precision engineering. 6. LF5 and LF10 are both aluminum-magnesium rust-proof alloys, with LF10 containing slightly more magnesium than LF5. They have comparable strength to LF3, cannot be heat-treated, and exhibit high plasticity in the annealed condition. Semi-cold hardened versions have medium plasticity, and both alloys maintain good weldability. LF5 is commonly used for welded components, piping, and liquid-containing containers, while LF10 is primarily used for producing rivets due to its favorable properties in forming and joining applications.
