1. Range Hoods —————————————————————————————————————

Types of Range Hoods

There are four main types of range hoods: Chinese-style, European-style, side-suction, and multimedia intelligent models. Each has its own unique features and benefits.

The first type is the Chinese-style hood. It comes in two variations: shallow and deep suction. The shallow version is being phased out due to inefficiency. These traditional hoods simply exhaust fumes directly outside. However, they tend to be bulky, noisy, inefficient at capturing smoke, and difficult to clean, which leads to a shorter lifespan and environmental pollution.

The second is the European-style hood. Known for its advanced multi-layer oil filters (typically 5-7 layers) and higher motor power (over 200 watts), it offers superior performance. These hoods are more aesthetically pleasing and are often used in high-end kitchens. They usually feature flat screens and hanging installation. Brands like Boss and Fange are popular examples.

The third type is the side-suction range hood. Designed using aerodynamics and fluid mechanics, these hoods use a soot separation plate to clean the air before exhausting it. This results in over 99% efficiency in smoke removal. Side-suction hoods are compact, do not drip oil, and can be integrated into cabinets. They are energy-efficient (around 160 watts), easy to clean, and ensure cleaner air without polluting the environment.

The fourth is the multimedia intelligent range hood. Combining modern automation, internet technology, and multimedia features, these hoods offer an interactive and smart kitchen experience. A popular example is the wing-type hood, which enhances both functionality and entertainment in the kitchen.

How to Choose a Range Hood

When selecting a range hood, three key factors should be considered: airflow volume, wind pressure, and noise level.

1. Airflow volume refers to the amount of air the hood can extract per minute when static pressure is zero. According to national standards, it should be at least 7 m³/min. Higher airflow means better smoke extraction, but too much can cause excessive heat loss. An ideal range is between 14–15 m³/min.

2. Wind pressure measures the static pressure at 7 m³/min. National regulations require at least 80 Pa. Higher wind pressure ensures more effective smoke removal, making it a crucial factor when comparing models.

3. Noise level is another important indicator. Measured in decibels, it should not exceed 74 dB. While higher airflow increases noise, some models manage this with improved design.

In addition to these metrics, other factors such as motor power, inlet size, filter design, fan system, and exhaust pipe length also affect the hood's performance.

Materials and Features

Common materials used in range hoods include cold-rolled steel, "aviation" aluminum, tempered glass, and stainless steel. Each material offers different advantages in terms of durability, aesthetics, and ease of maintenance.

Cleaning and Maintenance Tips

Cleaning a range hood is essential for its longevity and effectiveness. Prevention is always better than cure. Before using a new hood, apply a thin layer of soap powder in the oil reservoirs and add about one-third water. This helps the oil float on top, making it easier to remove later.

To prevent oil buildup, wipe the hood with a damp cloth and dish soap before first use. Dry it naturally, then apply a thin layer of detergent as a protective coating. If the surface feels sticky, rinse it with hot water (around 80°C) and reapply the detergent. Cover the opening with plastic wrap after cleaning to maintain protection.
