Summer wallpapers need to pay attention to the problem

When installing wallpaper, it's important to pay attention to air humidity. The relative humidity inside the room should not exceed 85% during construction, so choose a suitable weather condition. Keep the room clean and free of dust and debris, and make sure doors and windows are closed throughout the day and night to avoid working on wet walls.

If the wall has been damp, it’s best to apply a base coat or clear oil once it is completely dry. Fang Dianxiang also suggests that if the wall is in a bathroom, the interior should be specially treated with a waterproofing agent. Otherwise, the wall may remain damp for a long time, which can cause the wallpaper adhesive to lose its effectiveness.

Before applying wallpaper, it's recommended to first clean any oil from the wall surface, protect the walls from moisture, and allow them to dry completely. Then, gently sand the surface. However, Fang Dianxiang reminds that applying two coats of oil is essential, as a too smooth surface may prevent the wallpaper from sticking properly, leading to seams or gaps during drying.

Choosing the right adhesive is crucial. In summer, high temperatures can cause harmful substances like formaldehyde and benzene from building materials to evaporate more easily. Therefore, it's important to focus on eco-friendly options. When hanging wallpaper, try using non-toxic, environmentally friendly glue, and consider hiring a professional wallpaper installation company. You can opt for potato starch glue, glutinous rice starch glue, or special glues provided by some wallpaper brands. There are even child-safe adhesives available on the market.

After the installation, take care of the drying process. In spring, when the air is humid, open windows to help the walls dry faster. In summer, however, it’s better to let the wallpaper sit for about 15 minutes before applying it, as the dry environment requires a slightly thicker application.

If you open the windows immediately after installation, the freshly applied wallpaper may shrink or warp due to rapid drying. Fang Dianxiang advises homeowners to turn off the air conditioner during the installation to avoid sudden temperature changes, which can lead to issues like surface irregularities, bubbling, cracking, or warping. After finishing the work, ensure proper ventilation for 36–48 hours in the summer to allow the wallpaper to settle correctly.
